I’m Jack Elway, a recently retired professional photographer based in Denver. Right now, I’m still getting accustomed to retirement and like to keep myself busy in the meantime. I still take a lot of pictures with my favorite subjects being scenes from my neighborhood and other places in the city and the wilderness just on the outskirts. A nature photographer by specialty, I’m currently enamored by the majestic beauty and fascinating native wildlife of Colorado, something I had not previously been able to appreciate back when I was busy.
I’ve since taken the role of the laid-back suburban dad. Married for more than 35 years to the lovely Jessica, we’ve had two wonderful children, the diligent Edward who followed in my footsteps and now runs the photography business we had built together, and a teen daughter, Bridget, a high school senior who plans to attend film school.
One other thing I’ve taken to rather well in retirement is the time I have to practice skills I wasn’t able to get involved in before. Macrophotography is one of my newer hobbies. Some of my favorite macro subjects include visually interesting natural objects and small animals.
Jessica and I spend a lot of our mutual downtime traveling, often taking a lot of candid pictures of the places we visit. Our current travel plans are all cross-country, many of which are road trips to places in rural Colorado.
Because of my background taking pictures of spectacular wild places, I am also an ardent environmentalist and an advocate for sustainable and ecologically responsible travel. I believe in preserving these natural wonders for everyone to enjoy for years to come.
